Ajmer - Dargah of Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Hasan Chisti

Walk past the bustling Dargah bazaar and enter the premises of the serene mausoleum through a high gateway with intricately carved silver ornamentation. Be captivated with 2 massive cauldrons that ornament the courtyard. Step into the sanctum that houses the tomb of the celebrated Sufi saint that is surrounded by a delicately carved silver railing.
The main tomb at the Dargah is screened by a delicately carved marble partition. See the special prayer hall that was constructed by Shah Jahan for women.
Once you are done with praying at the Dargah, you must visit the other monuments located within the Dargah premises. See the tomb of Bibi Hafiz Jama who was the daughter of the departed Sufi saint. Pay your respects at the tomb of Begum Chimni Begum who was the daughter of Shah Jahan and marvel at the wonderfully constructed prayer halls and Mehfil Khana.
The Dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Hasan Chisti in Ajmer is one of the most important Muslim pilgrimages not only in India but also in the world. In fact the Dargah at Ajmer is the second most important Muslim pilgrimage after the one at Mecca.
Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Hasan Chisti was born and brought up in Persia and came to Ajmer to preach Islam after his enlightenment. He dedicated his life to the upliftment of the poor and thus earned the title of Garib Nawaz.
The Sufi saint retired into his quarters six days before he passed away and spend these six days in seclusion, meditation and prayer. These six days are celebrated annually as the Urs festival.
The main tomb was constructed by Emperor Humayun. Other rulers have made monumental additions to the initial structure. There are mosques built by Emperor Akbar and Shah Jahan within the Dargah premises.
