Bayana, a small town
located just 45 kms from Bharatpur was a stronghold
of the Mughals. The ancient name of Bayana was Sripatha
or Sriprastha having a lot of remains and leftovers
from ancient past. The old fort is the prime means
of attraction of the Bayana. Here the visitors will
glad to get a curious mixture of Hindu and Muslim relics.
There lays a pillar with inscriptions in Pali (an ancient
language, of around the 4th-5th century BC). The writing
of Urdu is also festooned on the walls of the fort
to grab the Muslim travelers.
The
Barah Khambon ki Chhatri and Lodi Minar are counted
among the prominent forts and monument of Bayana, Bharatpur.
The Barah Khambon ki Chhatri, a pavilion of 12 pillars
is a red sandstone catacomb lying at the foothills
within the opaque bushes. Lodi Minar is an incomplete
structure of Lodi’s, built in 1519-20 by Nizam
Khan. The construction of Lodi Minar was unfortunately
stalled by the Mughal emperor Babur. The ancient forts
and monuments are almost in ruins at Bayana but still
patiently uttering the story of different invaders
to the visitors.
