BHARATPUR - INTRODUCTION
The Bharatpur district is in the state of Rajasthan.
The Bharatpur district has an area of 5,066 sq. km.
The Bharatpur town is administrative headquarter of
the district, Bharatpur. The Bharatpur city was founded
by Maharaja Suraj Mal in the year 1733. The river Rooparel,
Gambhir, and Ban Ganga crosses the district. The place
is famous for Keoladeo National Park where one can
find a variety of migratory birds in the winter season.
Every year during the winter season, the rare Siberian
cranes come to this place. The Bharatpur district was
also known as the best duck shooting resort in the
British Empire. This national park has been listed
as a world heritage site by the UNESCO.
The rich and marvelous Palaces in Bharatpur are some
of major attractions of the place. This remnant of
the royal past has been the site of major attraction
of many tourists all over the world.

Climate
During the summer season, the temperature ranges from 38˚ C to 45˚ C. But during the winter season the temperature falls below 10˚ C. Ground fog covers the place in the winter season.
Location
Bharatpur is popularly known as the “Eastern Gateway to Rajasthan”. The Bharatpur town is located 50 km west to the city of Agra. It is also the administrative headquarters of the district, Bharatpur.
BHARATPUR- HISTORY AND LEGENDS
Bharatpur got its name after Bharat, brother of Lord Rama. The other brother of Lord Ram is Laxman. In the inception of 17th century, Lord Aditya founded the cities and forts of Bharatpur. One of the great rulers of that time was Maharaja Suraj Mal. One can find massive fortified wall around the entire city of Bharatpur. Later on, the entire city merged with three nearby princely states to form the 'Matsya Union',
