A small town of Deogarh in the district of Rajsamund in Rajasthan is situated on the boundaries of Mewar, Marwar and Merwara. Deogarh is situated at a distance of 135 km from Udaipur, 280 km from Jaipur and 170 km from Jodhpur. Situated at an elevation of 2100 ft Deogarh is comparatively cooler then the other parts of the Rajasthan. The best time to travel to Deogarh is from March to October. One of the major attractions of the town of Deogarh is its famous Mahal which was built in the year 1670 AD by Rawal Dwarka Das Ji as a family residence. The palace gradually became a focal point of the village activities. Now the mahal is converted to a grand heritage hotel and is still occupied by the royal family. Deogarh serves as a convenient base for excursion trips to the famous Kumbalgarh Fort and the Jain temples of Ranakpur. On a travel trip to Deogarh visitors can come across the famous school of miniature paintings. Some miniatures are the personal collections of the present Rawat sahib. There are some interesting rooms in the palace to venture through, like Sheesh Mahal, the colorful hall of mirrors, is one of them.
The other major attraction of the town of Deogarh include Deogarh Mahal, Dashavatar temple, Mahanstambha and Chanderi. The Dashavatar Temple is a famous temple of the town dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The main specialty of the temple is that it is the first north Indian temple to have a shikara or spire of which only the left part is left. Mahanstambha is a group of 13 Jain temples. Various Tirthankara images are carved on the pillars of the temple. Chanderi is renowned for Chanderi sarees that are manufactured over here.
