Shergarh Fort

Sited at the south of Dholpur, Rajasthan, the Shergarh Fort is the ultimate example of historic fort built by Sher Shah Suri. Though the fort is now in a ruined condition for age, avoidance and negligence but still contributes significantly in making Dholpur a major tourist halt. The fort was built on the place of an earlier Hindu fortress situated about 65 kms from Bran District head quarter. Shergarh fort was constructed in earlily10th century, known as the site of religious passion devoted to Lord Shiva the Destroyer.

Named after the Sultan of Delhi, Sher Shah Suri, the Shergarh fort was initially built as a form of defense against the rulers of Mewar in mid 16th century. The fort is the model of rich delicate style architectures of past. Festooned with carved images, statues of Hindu gods and Jain motifs, Shergarh Fort was protected by water, considered as the charm of Dholpur. The Fort is mainly a Jal Drug with the river Parwan structuring a moat around it. It is believed that the Shergarh Fort, Rajasthan has now become a refuge for dacoits.
