Shergarh Fort
Named after its founder Sher Shah Suri, the Shergarh Fort is situated at the South of Dholpur in Rajasthan. Though the fort was in ruined condition due to avoidance and negligence but it was once the major tourist attraction of Dholpur and is still contributed significantly in making Dholpur a major tourist halt. Shergarh Fort was built much earlier in the 10th century and was a religious site dedicated to Lord Shiva the destroyer. However the fort was originally built as a form of defense against the rulers of Mewar in the mid 16th century and is like a Jal Durg. It is protected by water with the river Parwan forming a moat around it. It is believed that the Shergarh Fort has now become a refuge for dacoits.
The fort is a model of rich delicate style of architecture of the bygone era. The walls of the fort have distinct style and are decorated with carved images and statues of Hindu Gods and Jain motifs. It is now believed that the fort is now a haven for dacoits. Rajasthan holiday provides on line information and tour bookings to Shergarh Fort Rajasthan.
