Royal Wedding in Jaipur

See a royal wedding in Jaipur and be enchanted with legendary customs and traditions that are observed with devotion and enthusiasm.

Preparations for a royal wedding in Jaipur begins days in advance, though there are several rituals that are performed at the brides home and the bridegroom's home, the most important ritual that is performed in both the families is the "Mehendi Rasam."

All the brides' friends and relatives gather and sing songs as the brides' hands and feet are anointed with intricate henna designs. The name of the groom is carefully hennaed with the intricate design on the brides' palms.

In the morning of the wedding day the bridegroom is anointed with a mixture of turmeric, mustard oil and curd and then the mixture is sent to the brides home and the same ritual is performed as a priest chants mantras from the scriptures.

In the evening the bridegroom reaches the brides home with his traditional sword dressed like a warrior prince, accompanied with dancing relatives and friends who are received with showers of flower petals, rose water, caparisoned elephants, camels and horses at the entrance to the wedding venue.

The grooms relatives are treated to traditional snacks and dinner while the main wedding takes place in a floral mandap adorned with painted earthen pottery, mango leaves, brilliant lights and fresh flowers. The bride and the groom walk around the holy fire seven times as the priest acquaints them with the traditional Hindu wedding vows.
