Gadi Sagar Lake

Jaisalmer - Gadi Sagar Lake

Tour the Gadi Sagar Lake in Jaisalmer and experience a sense of all-pervading peace on its yellow sandstone Ghats, surrounded by several temples and shrines.

See the clear waters of Gadi Sagar Lake Jaisalmer reflect the jubilant mood of rare migratory birds that stop by for a drink; enjoy a boat ride on the Gadi Sagar waters as you feel a gentle mist of divinity and goodness oozing from religious shrines around the delightful yellow sandstone banks.

Affectionately referred to as Gharisisar Tank, Gadi Sagar is a manmade lake that was, interestingly enough, the only source of water for waterless Jaisalmer in Rajasthan, India.

Gadi Sagar Lake was built under the express guidance of Maharwal Rawal Jaisal and was later reconstructed by Maharaja Garisisar Singh. The main approach road to the Gadi Sagar Lake is crowned with a massive yellow sandstone gateway that is known as the Tilon-Ki-Pol.

There are quite a few delightfully carved chattris on the Ghats of the wonderful Gadi Sagar Lake.

The annual Jaisalmer Gangaur celebrations are held on the banks of Gadi Sagar Lake and for once in a year the quiet Gadi Sagar springs to life with folk activity, rituals, prayers, visitors, traditional functions and all that is symbolic of colorful Rajasthan.

Gadi Sagar Lake is among the most captivating tourist attractions of Jaisalmer in Rajasthan, North India and is most definitely a must visit while you are on a Rajasthan holiday tour.
