Jaisalmer - Nathmalji Ki Haveli
The Nathmalji ki haveli was constructed for Diwan Mohta Nathmal, the then prime minister in the Jaisalmer royal court. The haveli was built under express orders of the ruling Maharwal Beri Sal and the responsibility of construction was given to two Muslim architect brothers, Lulu and Hathi
Two life size yellow sandstone elephants welcome you at the entrance of Nathmalji Ki Haveli. Stone-carved screen windows, jewel like balconies, exquisitely executed murals and a profusion of architectural splendor overwhelm you during your Jaisalmer tours with Rajasthan Holiday.
The two wings of Nathmalji were built and carved differently, though based on the same building plan and the architectural magnificence of Nathmalji Ki Haveli lies in the fact that the places where the two wings meet seem to fuse in perfect harmony.
The Muslim silavats who worked to create this architectural specimen that adds to Jaisalmer's glory were the unsung heroes of golden Jaisalmer who showed unwavering tenacity and skill in executing the massive Nathmalji ki haveli.
The walls of Nathmalji ki haveli are adorned with stone sculptures of horses, elephants, flowers, birds and exotic patterns that resemble magnified pieces of exotic jewelry.
