Patwon Ki Haveli

Jaisalmer - Patwon Ki Haveli

Come and explore an enchanting world of stone chiseled into the most heart stirring designs, screen windows, elaborate stone motifs and other Rajputana adornments peculiar to regal Rajasthan at the Patwon-ki-haveli in Jaisalmer with Rajasthan Holiday.

Patwon ki haveli is a cluster of five havelis that were constructed by the members of the same family at different points of time. The astonishing factor that strikes you is the perfect symmetry in design and building in all the five wings that were constructed over a period of 50 years.

Guman Chand, a famous merchant who dealt in gold, brocade and silver, constructed the most ostentatious and largest of the havelis. Later he constructed the rest of the wings for his five sons.

There are five huge suites in the Patwon ki haveli that signify all that was grand and beautiful in medieval Rajasthan. Spacious corridors, beautifully sculpted pillars and colorfully adorned walls revoke images of an incomparably lavish lifestyle.

One room in particular is covered with artistic murals and is perhaps the most enchanting room in the entire haveli.

Today the Archaeological Survey of India owns a section of Patwon ki haveli, a small part of it is owned by a family and a part of the Patwon ki haveli is occupied by people who run craft shops in the area.
