Jaisalmer Fort

Jaisalmer Fort

Feel your heart skip a beat at the enthralling vista of a magnificent yellow sandstone fort rising out of ochre-gold Jaisalmer sands. Located atop an 80-meter high sandstone hillock, the Jaisalmer Fort represents all that is martial, valiant, beautiful and passionate about Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.

This Bhatti Rajput military bastion boasts of a 30-feet tall sandstone wall with 92 battlements. The average height of this yellow sandstone fort is about 250-feet high.

The gigantic Jaisalmer Fort adorns the peak of Trikuta Hill and reminds you of a very popular legend according to which the Hindu God, Lord Krishna who was a descendant of the Yadav clan himself, predicted that a lesser-known descendant of the same clan would establish a flourishing kingdom on Trikuta hill.

Constructed by Rawal Jaisal in 1156 A.D., the Jaisalmer Fort signified the supremacy of Rawal Jaisal and his men over the sands of Jaisalmer. Popularly referred to as the Golden Fort, Jaisalmer Fort was the capital of Rawal Jaisal and his descendants.

There are several craft workshops, antique shops and bustling kiosks along the fort walls that recreate a regal experience for you.
