Kishangarh - INTRODUCTION
Known as the marble city of India, and founded by Kishan Singh Rathore in 1611, Kishangarh has had one of India's most famous schools of miniature painting. Under Satwant Singh's patronage, the school reached its peak in terms of popularity. A poet and painter himself, he promoted Kishangarh art big time. It is believed that Savant Singh modeled as Lord Krishna while his mistress Bani Thani as Radha. The renowned Kishangarh Radha painting is still considered to be one of the best works of Kishangarh.
Though the magic of art still lingers on in the city, modern Kishangarh is bustling and crowded. It is an important market for red chillies and a cotton-weaving center.
The forts and palaces of the city overlook an enormous lake, which has another palace in its center.
