Nawalgarh - INTRODUCTION
The city of Nawalgarh that is located 30 kms southeast of Fatehpur has some of the finest artifacts of the Shekhawati region. The town with the largest number of Havelis from the Shekhawati region emanates the charm of ancient Rajasthani culture. The Havelis at the town are the mansions that boast of the beautifully engraved wooden gates and the painted walls. The walls of these Havelis cover a lot of stories in the shape of paintings. The most famous among them are the life sketches of Lord Krishna.

Climate
As compared to other places in Rajasthan, Nawalgarh has a rather moderate climate. During summers, the highest temperature is 40'C while the lowest is 26'C. During winters, the lowest temperature at Nawalgarh is around 10'C. The weather in the town is dry like the rest of the places in Rajasthan.
Location
The town is located at a distance of 25 kms from Sikar in Rajasthan. The capital city of Jaipur is at a distance of 140 kms. The town is well linked by railways and can be commuted via the main cities of the state.
Nawalgarh- History and Legends
Thakur Nawal Singh founded the town of Nawalgarh, famous for its Havelis in 1731 AD. Thakur Nawal Singh was a warrior statesman and has his name imprinted in the town's history and the folklores that are still a major part of living here.
The town of Nawalgarh has witnessed the establishment of maximum number of Shekhawati Havelis. The most famous of them are Aath (eight) Haveli Complex, Anandi Lal Poddar Haveli, Jodhraj Patodia Haveli, Bansidhar Bhagat Haveli, Chokhani Haveli, and Roop Niwas Palace.
Main Attractions
Anandi Lal Poddar Haveli
The only Haveli to be restored by its owner, this Haveli houses a school. Built somewhere in 1920's, the Haveli is an excellent place to visit for the exquisite paintings displaying the richness of Rajasthani culture.
Nawalgarh Fort
The main building of this town, the disfigured fort is now a dwelling for two banks and a few other government organizations. Founded in the year 1737 AD, the fort is largely disfigured due to modern day developments.
Roop Niwas Palace
Offering a mesmerizing view of lavish gardens and fountains, this building has now been converted into a heritage hotel.
The Aath Haveli Complex
This complex houses eight different Havelis and is surely worth a look because of the intricately carved doorways and ancient paintings. These havelis are a perfect example of Rajasthani architecture.
The Bazar of Nawalgarh
The market area or the bazaar is extremely colorful and showcases the life of Shekhawati region.
Excursions
Dundlod
The town of Dundlod offers its visitors the most picturesque surroundings. The fort of Dundlod is owned by the direct descendent of the Rawal who established the place. The town is located at a distance of 8 kms from Nawalgarh.
Mandawa
The medieval fort of Mandawa appears to be rising gradually on the horizon like a mirage. A painted arched gateway festooned with Lord Krishna and his cows leads to the market. A fine view of the town can be seen from the terrace of the citadel of Mandawa. Chokhani, Saraf, Goenka and Ladia havelis are the buildings worth visiting at least once.
Mukundgarh
The tourists visiting Nawalgarh can visit this town to shop for local handicrafts, brass items and textiles.
