Pali - INTRODUCTION
The place gets its name from the Paliwal Brahmins who once inhabited a highly evolved civilization in Pali. According to geologists, Pali has emerged from the vast western sea spread over a large part of present day Rajasthan. Maharshi Javali stayed here for meditation and interpretation of the Vedas during the Vedic Age. The Pandavas in the Mahabharata are believed to have made this area their resting place during their exile.
According to memoirs of legendary Chinese traveler Huan-te-Sang, in 667 AD, Pali was a part of Gujar Desh and was administered by local bodies.
King Kanishka has conquered Rohat and Jaitaran areas of Pali in 120 AD. Pali is believed to have existed during this age - the Kushana Age. Chalukya king Harshavardhana reigned this area till the end of the seventh century AD.
A number of battles took place in Pali during the 16th and 17th century. Sher Shah Suri was defeated by Rajput rulers. Mughal emperor Akbar had constant battles with Maharana Pratap. There was a series of wars between the Mughal kings and the Rathore clan of Marwar. Finally, Pali was rehabilitated by Maharaja Vijay Singh.
The city of Pali is known to have played a very significant role in India's freedom struggle against the British.
