INTRODUCTION
Sawai Madhopur is a district of Rajasthan. It is
located to the east of Rajasthan. It has an area
of 4500 sq. km. Sawai Madhopur is bounded by Duasa
district to the north, Karauli district to the west,
Kota district on the southwest, Bundi district on
the southeast, and Tonk district to the east. Sawai
Madhopur is the administrative headquarter of the
district. The main occupation of the people is cultivation.
There are so many notable tourists’ places
in Sawai Madhopur. Some of the places include Ranthambor
National Park, Ranthambor Fort, Ganesh Temple and
Man Sarowar Dam.

CLIMATE AND LOCATION
Location:
The town of Sawai Madhopur lies about 180 kms to the
north-east of Jaipur. The town lies along the rolling
hills of the Aravali and the Vindhyas ranges.
Climate:
The Thar Desert is very near to Sawai Madhopur. So,
Madhopur has extreme type of climate. During the
summer season particularly during the months of April
to June, the temperature rises above 38˚ C.
In the months of July and August, the area receives
rainfall. While in winters (October-March), the temperature
becomes pleasant and encourages tourist from all
over the world to visit the Ranthambor National Park,
which is located in Sawai Madhopur.
SAWAI MADHOPUR - HISTORY AND LEGENDS
The town, Sawai Madhopur is founded in 1765 AD. The
town was named after the name of Sawai Madho Singh-I
of Jaipur.The history of Sawai Madhopur traces back
the time when the Muslim rulers were about to start
in the country. After the fall of Prithviraj Chauhan,
a number of battles were staged on this land. The grandson
of Prithviraj Chauhan, Govinda ruled Sawai Madhopur.
After his death, his successor Vagabhatta ruled for
12 years and was involved in frequent battles with
the sultans. Sawai Madhapur thorn suffered a lot due
to many changes and shifting in authority. However
Sawai Madho Singh-I restored its previous glory in
the 18th century.
