Kumbhalgarh fort situated approximately 64 km north
of Udaipur was a popular construction of 15th century.
This massive citadel is regarded as the most vital
fort in Chittorgarh in Mewar. This fort is mostly visited
for being the birthplace of Mewar's gallant warrior
king, Maharana Pratap. The fort is festooned with a
thick wall having stretches of 36 kms and broad enough
to take eight horses abreast. The fort also offers
a magnificent view of birds of the environs. The Kumbhalgarh
fort's large compound has an attractive ruin and walking
around the place comes with refreshment in the minds
of the visitors.
The unique special feature of the fort is that there
lays another fort within itself. The inner fort adorned
with a palace named Kartargarh, built by Maharana Fateh
Singh is the prime allurement of the spot. The fort
is self-sufficient having the amenities for combined
armies of Mughal and Amber in scarcity of drinking
water. Several palaces and a variety of temples built
by the Mauryas are also there within a close proximity
of the Kumbhalgarh fort. This fort, structured by Rana
Kumbha was sited at an inaccessible and hostile topography
so it remained un-conquered to a huge extend.
