On January, 1951 the Rajasthan Police came into existence. The first Inspector General of the
Police of Rajasthan was Shri R. Banerji. The western part of Rajasthan is bordered by our neighboring country, Pakistan. To eliminate any possibility of threat of the Pakistani raiders, the
police of Rajasthan play a vital role in keeping the safety and security of the state. Also the Central Reserve Police were employed to guard the borders. In the very early times of the inception of the Rajasthan Police, there were no C.I.D., proper jails and judiciary systems. Later some rectifications were made to improve the services of the Rajasthan Police. To make the service of the Rajasthan Police more effective, it was separated into two units namely the Armed Police and the Civil Police. The Armed Police includes the training, anti-dacoit squads, guards etc. And the Civil Police handles the investigation, prosecution, intelligence and maintaining the traffic rules.
The present scenario of the Rajasthan Police is that they are very well equipped with all the modern technologies. The Information Technology, Forensic Science Laboratory, modern telecommunication facilities were some of the latest technologies that helped the Rajasthan Police to make their operation more effective. Also, some specialized units and new departments were incorporated with able trained personnel.
Currently, the total strength of Rajasthan Police force is 70,000. The entire Police force is headed by the Director General of Police. There are eight police zones in
Rajasthan. Each zone is supervised by Inspector General of Police. There are 711 police stations, 172 circles and 788 out-post in Rajasthan. There are also Women Police in Rajasthan who deals with women related cases. Some of them are dowry, rape, immoral trafficking of the teen girls and women etc. The first Mahila Police Station was set up at Jaipur in March, 1989.
