Brahma Temple, Pushkar
Brahma temple is the abode of the creator of
Universe-Lord Brahma, nestled beyond Nagaparvat and the Anasagar
lake Pushkar. The temple was constructed in 14th century, regarded
as a popular pilgrimage center of Hindus. Known for its natural beauty
the Brahma temple holds a special place in the hearts of worldwide
devotees.According to a popular belief Lord Brahma along with all
the gods and goddesses performed a Yagya in this spot. The image
of Brahma was in Palthi (seated) position gives another significance
to the temple. According to legend, a lotus fell from the hands of
Lord Brahma and dropped into this valley as a result of which the
ancient lake Sarovar had appeared.
The
Brahma Temple in Pushkar is the only temple in India devoted
to the lord Brahma so occupies a pivotal position amongst
the devotees. Brahma temple was decorated with marble with
silver turtle on the floor, an image of Hans, and the vehicle
of Saraswati, on the top of the main doorway are there
to distinguish it from several other temples in Pushkar.To
memorialize the births and deaths of devotees’ loved ones
they usually stud coins in the floor of the temple premise.
The temple has also an image of Lord Vishnu, life sized
dwarpals (door men) and Garuda pillars (a mythical bird,
in gold). Though a plethora of temples carefully decorates
the place yet Pushkar is more renowned as the house of
Brahma.
