Palace on Wheels offers a wonderful opportunity to tour the exotic locations of Rajasthan that too in luxury and style. The Palace on Wheels is one of the finest luxury trains in the world. The luxury train starts its journey from Delhi and wind through various destinations in Rajasthan before entering into Agra-the City of the Taj Mahal.
Day 01: Delhi Cant- Jaipur (Wednesday)
The train leaves New Delhi Cantonment Railway Station every Wednesday at 1830 hrs. Reporting time is 1600 hrs. Overnight on board Palace on Wheels.
Day 02: Jaipur- Jaisalmer (Thursday; Arrival 0200 hrs. Departure 1930 hrs.)
Upon arrival in Jaipur, you are accorded a royal welcome. Jaipur is the first planned city in India, which was founded way back in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh. Jaipur is also known as the Pink City and is the capital of Rajasthan. You explore the city in an air-conditioned coach takes you to Hawa Mahal and the other nearby places. This is followed by a visit to Amber Fort, which is eight kilometers away from the Pink City. You also visit the bustling markets of Jaipur. After lunch at a Palace Hotel, you are off to the City Palace, home of the erstwhile royal family and Jantar Mantar, the largest observatory built by Sawai Jai Singh II. The coach takes you back to Palace on Wheels Train around 6.30 pm. Dinner on Board. Departure for Jaisalmer.
Day 03 - Jaisalmer (Friday; Arrival 0815 hrs. Departure 2300 hrs.)
Jaisalmer lies in the heart of the Thar Desert. It was founded by Rawal Jaisal, in 1156 A.D. After breakfast proceed on a sightseeing tour of the city. You visit the fort and beautifully designed havelis. The Nathmalji-ki-haveli, Patwon-ki-haveli and Salim Singh-ki-haveli are fine examples of the architectural skills of artisans of that time. You also head on a shopping tour. After lunch on board, proceed for an exciting camel ride on the sand dunes to Sam. Enjoy the dinner and cultural programs at a hotel in Jaisalmer before leaving for Jodhpur aboard Palace on Wheels at night.
Day 04 - Jodhpur (Saturday; Arrival 0700 hrs. Departure 1530 hrs)
Arrive in Jodhpur in the morning. The city was founded by Rao Jodha in 1459 AD. You head on a sightseeing tour visiting the majestic Mehrangarh Fort and grand palaces within. Later proceed to visit Jaswant Thada and a group of royal cenotaphs made of white marble. After lunch at a Palace hotel, return to the Palace on Wheels Train for onwards journey.
Day 05 - Sawai Madhopur (Sunday; Arrival 0400 hrs. Departure 1030 hrs)
Before the town stirs to life you arrive in Sawai Madhopur, the base to visit Ranthambore National Park. The town is named after its founder Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh I. After breakfast, proceed to visit the Ranthambore National Park. You take a wildlife safari to the park and also visit the ruins of Ranthambore fort in the park. Later return to the Palace on Wheels and leave for Chittorgarh.
Day 05 - Chittorgarh (Sunday; Arrival 1600 hrs)
After lunch on board you arrive in Chittorgarh. You visit the Chittorgarh Fort and other monuments. Overnight in Chittorgarh.
Day 06 - Udaipur - Chittorgarh (Monday; Departure 2000 hrs.)
In the morning the luxury coach takes you to Udaipur. Udaipur was founded by Maharana Udai Singh of Mewar. You proceed on a sightseeing tour of tourist places in Udaipur. After lunch at Lake Palace Hotel, proceed to visit the City Palace, museum and Jag Mandir. The luxury coach then takes you back to the Palace on Wheels at Chittaurgarh.
Day 07 - Bharatpur (Tuesday; Arrival 0630 hrs. Departure 900 hrs)
Early morning arrival in Bharatpur. After breakfast proceed to visit the world famous Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. The sanctuary is home large number species of birds. Every year during winter, many migratory birds come here. Later departure for Agra.
Day 07 - Agra (Tuesday; Arrival 1430 hrs. Departure 2100 hrs)
After arrival in Agra, you proceed to visit Fatehpur Sikri, the ghost city where Akbar built his capital. The city has various palatial complex, a mosque and the shrine of Salim Chisti. Later return to Agra, after lunch, proceed to visit the Agra Fort and the Taj Mahal. The Taj Mahal is the most beautiful monument in India. It was built by emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved queen Mumtaz Mahal. Agra is also known for its splendid marble inlay work like the Pietra Dura work on the Taj, leather goods and jewellery. You take a stroll down the markets before boarding the Palace on Wheels Train for onwards journey to Delhi.
Day 08 - Delhi Cant (Wednesday; Arrival 0600 hrs)
Arrive at Delhi Cant in the morning. Tour ends.
