Camel Breeding Farm


Sprawling across the area of 2000 acres of semi arid land, the National Research Center on Camel (NRCC) at Bikaner was established. It is one of kind Government sponsored Camel Breeding farm established on 5th July 1984. This unique endeavor has earned a name for itself in the world when it comes to the breeding of finest single humped Indian camel. The ship of desert the camel is much favored by the Indian army. They are also sold during the various fairs and festivals at Bikaner and Jaisalmer where they are decorated with beautiful ornaments.

The Raika and Rebari are the traditional tribes of camel breeders and they have various interesting stories to tell about these wondrous creatures. Besides the camel breeding the NRCC has set p a camel milk dairy with in the premises. The camel milk is used as a medicine and is also a rich source of vitamin D. The thick camel hair and hides are used in the making of blankets, belts, wallets, ropes, carriage bags etc. Tourists can avail the opportunity of camel ride and safari facilities that are arranged by the center and enjoy seeing the animals in their natural habitat. There is also a museum in the premises of the center that facilitate the visitors with the various aspects pertaining to the development and research on the camels.
